why ‘innocence’?

Imagine a space where a person comes to ‘be’ artist, to ‘play’ as an innocent plays: without a ‘plan’, without preconceived ideas of what ‘art’ is or ‘should be’; perhaps¬† even without predetermined ideas of what a particular object or medium is, or the function it usually performs, or the way it is usually used.¬† Where the person as artist, is free to explore, experiment, be free of boundaries.

The Latin term ‘tabula rasa’, (somewhat taken over by the behavioural sciences), is represented by ‘innocence’, here at mim, where it is used in its literal sense and that is : ‘a blank slate’, an empty page/canvas/space, waiting to be populated.

What an irresistible prospect for any artist!
